Welcome Ed!

Tuesday, November 9, 2021 - 13:55 by Paul Buck

I am happy to announce that Ed Merks has joined the Eclipse Foundation as the Release Engineer for Eclipse SimRel in support of the Eclipse IDE Working Group. This working group  was formed to ensure the continued sustainability, integrity, evolution and adoption of the Eclipse IDE suite of products and related technologies. Founding members of the working group include Bosch, EclipseSource, IBM, Kichwa Coders, Renesas, SAP, VMware, Vector and Yatta.

As Release Engineer for Eclipse SimRel, Ed will work with the Eclipse IDE working group’s Steering Committee and the Planning Council to oversee quarterly Simultaneous Release (SimRel) of the Eclipse IDE and its family of products and follow up on items that need to be addressed to assure the on-schedule delivery.

Ed is based in Wädenswil, Switzerland, and joins the Eclipse Foundation as a consultant which  builds on work he has done within the open source projects at the Eclipse Foundation and the work he has done for many adopters of these technologies. He is a long-time committer and project leader on a number of Eclipse projects including Modeling, EMF, Oomph, JustJ, Eclipse Platform and the PDE. Ed actively mentors many projects and has been dedicated to their success. The new responsibilities build on the work Ed already does to support the Eclipse projects he is active in today, and Ed has committed to continue to contribute to the broader Eclipse community and Eclipse projects separate from this new engagement. He currently serves as the committer representative to the Eclipse Foundation Board and the Eclipse IDE Working Group, he is also a PMC lead for Eclipse Modeling project, a member of the Planning Council, and a member of the Architecture Council.

Please join me in congratulating Ed on taking on this new role in the Eclipse IDE Working Group!
