Learn how IIoT startup Aloxy is leveraging its Eclipse Foundation membership and projects, such as Eclipse Hono and Eclipse Ditto, to build its business and strengthen its reputation.

Aloxy designs and builds solutions for chemical, oil and gas, and other process industries. Sensors on infrastructure in the field monitor the positions of critical valves and send the data back to an industrial IoT (IIoT) Hub for processing and analysis. The IIoT Hub also manages all over-the-air (OTA) commissioning, configuration, and firmware updates for the connected devices.

As a startup, Aloxy’s use of proven building blocks such as Eclipse Hono and Eclipse Ditto has been very important. “The investment required to implement the entire solution ourselves would not have been feasible,” says Glenn Ergeerts, co-founder and chief technology officer (CTO) at Aloxy. “By reusing stable and secure components, we were able to spend more time on the unique aspects of our solution and get to market in a relatively short period of time. It was a no-brainer decision.”

Aloxy also benefits from the name-recognition of the Eclipse Foundation and the visibility that comes with being listed as a member on the Eclipse Foundation website.

The company’s open source strategy is working. Today, several large oil and gas multinationals are hosting the company’s software in their private cloud and connecting multiple locations to it.
