Earlier this month, leading European open source software organizations signed an open letter to the European Commission about the potential impact of the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) on open source software in Europe.
The letter, signed by the Eclipse Foundation, outlines improvements to the CRA to avoid the unintended consequences that would decrease the number of open source projects available to European SMEs, increase the control over open source initiatives by large corporations, jeopardize the fragile equilibrium that benefits SMEs which contributes to European innovation, and reduce the security of products available to consumers.
The European Union is about to initiate negotiations between co-legislators on the CRA. To learn more about what this legislation means for open source software, visit our CRA resources page.
