We are pleased to announce a new conference for the Eclipse community, called OS Summit Asia. This new conference is being organized in collaboration with the Eclipse Foundation and the Apache Software Foundation. The inaugural event will be held Nov. 26-30, 2007 in Hong Kong and is expected to attract open source developers from across Asia.

Help Wanted: Test the new download page and packages

Something we would like to accomplish during the Europa release is to make it easier for our user community to download Eclipse. The existing download model requires you to start with the SDK and then start adding projects and features. However, for the millions of Eclipse users the SDK is a bit of overkill, if you are really just are using Eclipse as a Java IDE. Or if you want to use Eclipse as a C/C++ IDE it is not that obvious what to download when you visit our download page.

Prepared presentations should last approximately 60 minutes, including 5 minutes of questions from the audience at the end. Submitted talks should focus on 1 of 2 categories: 1) Consumer Stories; or 2) New & Noteworthy.

WTP 1.5.4 Declared!

WTP 1.5.4 has been released to fix a number of bugs in the 1.5 release. Those with 1.5.3 or below already installed need only use Update Manager to "find updates for currently installed features". All-in-one zip files, SDKs, and minimal runtimes are also available from the download site as well as from member companies.

The three projects include the Eclipse Rich Ajax Platform (RAP), the Eclipse Ajax Toolkit Framework (ATF) and the Eclipse Dynamic Language Toolkit (DLTK). These projects provide innovative new Eclipse-based technology to be utilized by Ajax developers and developers using dynamic languages such as Python, Ruby and Tcl.

The Eclipse Foundation, an open source community committed to the implementation of a universal development platform, today announced the release of the Eclipse Data Tools Platform (DTP) 1.0, a collection of extensible frameworks and exemplary tools for developing data-centric applications in the Eclipse environment. With DTP 1.0, developers can now easily leverage existing data sources, such as enterprise databases, within the extensible Eclipse Platform. Data-related applications are growing in significance, so this release meets an important development requirement in the software industry.
