How to participate in advancing Jakarta EE Specification

Monday, March 18, 2019 - 12:04 by Tatjana Obradovic

It is March already, and excitement for Jakarta EE is growing. The migration to Jakarta EE is almost complete! In the wake of the successful launch of the Java EE 8-compatible Eclipse GlassFish 5.1 in January, we are keeping our sights set firmly forward. We will continue to work towards the full transition from Java EE and JCP to Jakarta EE and the new specification process. All projects related to Jakarta EE will need to be examined and established into new Eclipse Foundation Specification projects, but it’s important that we agree on specifications and project names and ensure each has a well-documented project scope before we can begin advancing the specifications.

Yes, it’s set to be another busy year for the Eclipse Foundation. Having welcomed aboard new specification proposals such as Jakarta EE NoSQL and Jakarta Batch, we’re going to need all hands on deck! I’ve created this blog post with the aim of making it easier for individuals to contribute to the Jakarta EE Specification.

 The Scope of the Work

All of this can be daunting for people who are just starting to take interest in Jakarta EE and open source, but everyone can contribute in some easy ways to streamline the ongoing transition and advancement of the technology. If you are wondering what you can do to participate, this blog series will outline some areas where involvement is needed. I will group the work in the three major groups:

  • Marketing

  • Technical

  • Collateral

In the next couple of weeks, please expect more details on each.
