3 Automotive Talks You Won’t Want to Miss at EclipseCon 2020

Tuesday, September 15, 2020 - 08:23 by Paul Buck

Automated driving and autonomous mobility are hot topics these days and open source software is playing an increasingly important role in their development. So, it’s not surprising that there are a few very interesting automotive and autonomous driving talks lined up for EclipseCon 2020.

The automotive talks at EclipseCon 2020 build on last year’s content, including a great session on developing autonomous driving technologies with minimal programming using the AVSys design tool. With EclipseCon 2020 quickly approaching (October 19-22), it’s the ideal time for every developer who’s interested in open source automotive technologies to take a closer look at this year’s sessions:

Open Source Is Gaining Ground in the Automotive Industry

These sessions are a great way to learn more about the potential for open source technologies in the historically proprietary automotive industry. They’re also a great introduction to two Eclipse Working Groups that are focused on automotive technologies and have attracted world- and industry-leading organizations:

  • The Eclipse OpenADx Working Group focuses on the autonomous driving toolchain. This industry-wide ecosystem includes global technology leaders, such as Bosch and Microsoft, as well as contributors from the industrial, research, and start-up worlds. With the breadth of expertise this working group encompasses, it’s an excellent fit for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 automotive players, as well as tools and technology vendors.
  • The Eclipse openPASS Working Group provides tools, systems, and adapters for a standardized, openly available, and vendor-neutral platform for traffic scenario simulation. Members include BMW, Daimler, Toyota Europe, and Volkswagen Group of America.
