Something we would like to accomplish during the Europa release is to make it easier for our user community to download Eclipse. The existing download model requires you to start with the SDK and then start adding projects and features. However, for the millions of Eclipse users the SDK is a bit of overkill, if you are really just are using Eclipse as a Java IDE. Or if you want to use Eclipse as a C/C++ IDE it is not that obvious what to download when you visit our download page.

The Eclipse Foundation is looking for members to speak at Eclipse Summit Europe. Prepared presentations should last approximately 60 minutes, including 5 minutes of questions from the audience at the end. Submitted talks should focus on 1 of 2 categories: 1) Consumer Stories; or 2) New & Noteworthy.

WTP 1.5.4 has been released to fix a number of bugs in the 1.5 release. Those with 1.5.3 or below already installed need only use Update Manager to "find updates for currently installed features". All-in-one zip files, SDKs, and minimal runtimes are also available from the download site as well as from member companies.

The Eclipse Foundation is pleased to announce the upcoming releases of the Eclipse C/C++ IDE (CDT) 4.0 and Device Software Development Platform (DSDP) projects. These Eclipse projects represent the core technology that is being developed for the embedded and device development community and have been widely adopted by organizations across the embedded and device software market.

The Eclipse Foundation today announced three new project milestones that extend the Eclipse platform for Ajax applications and dynamic languages. The three projects include the Eclipse Rich Ajax Platform (RAP), the Eclipse Ajax Toolkit Framework (ATF) and the Eclipse Dynamic Language Toolkit (DLTK). These projects provide innovative new Eclipse-based technology to be utilized by Ajax developers and developers using dynamic languages such as Python, Ruby and Tcl.

The Eclipse Foundation today announced the winners of its annual Eclipse Community Awards, which recognize the top individuals, products and organizations in the Eclipse community. Recipients were honored at an awards ceremony yesterday on the opening day of EclipseCon 2007.

EclipseCon 2007, the fourth annual Eclipse community conference, opens today at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif. Attendees from around the world are expected to hear the latest Eclipse developments and discuss key business and technical issues facing the community. Scott Adams, creator of the comic strip Dilbert, will give the opening keynote presentation. Additional keynote addresses will be delivered by Robert “r0ml� Lefkowitz, a noted enterprise architect and systems designer, and Dr.

Eclipse Foundation announced the results of the Add-in Provider and Committer elections for representatives to the board of directors.

The finalist have been announced for the Eclipse Community Awards. Winners will be announced March 5 at EclipseCon.

The Eclipse Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of the Open Source Pavillion at EclipseCon 2007, March 5th-8th in Santa Clara, CA. The Open Source Pavilion will showcase open source projects that support and complement the spirit of the Eclipse community. ActiveGrid and Business Objects are co-sponsoring this event at EclipseCon.

There are two weeks left to qualify for the EclipseCon discounted early registration price. EclipseCon is the annual conference for the Eclipse community. It is a great opportunity to learn about over 70 different Eclipse projects. The complete conference program is now available on-line.

The Bandit and Eclipse Higgins Projects today announced the achievement of a key milestone in the development of open source identity services. Based on working code from the two projects and the larger community of open source developers, the teams have created a reference application that showcases open source identity services that are interoperable with Microsoft’s Windows* CardSpace* identity management system and enable Liberty Alliance-based identity federation via Novell® Access Manager.

The Eclipse Foundation, an open source community committed to the implementation of a universal development platform, today announced the release of the Eclipse Data Tools Platform (DTP) 1.0, a collection of extensible frameworks and exemplary tools for developing data-centric applications in the Eclipse environment. With DTP 1.0, developers can now easily leverage existing data sources, such as enterprise databases, within the extensible Eclipse Platform. Data-related applications are growing in significance, so this release meets an important development requirement in the software industry.

The Eclipse Foundation today announced that Actuate, BEA Systems, Business Objects, IBM and Klocwork have signed on as Gold Sponsors for EclipseCon 2007, the annual conference that brings together the Eclipse community. Gold Sponsorship is the highest level of sponsorship for the conference. The third annual EclipseCon will be held at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, Calif., March 5-8, 2007.
