EclipseCon 2008 will feature the latest Eclipse developments and will provide a forum for attendees to discuss key business and technical issues facing the community.

Eclipse Announces EclipseLink Project to Deliver JPA 2.0 Reference Implementation

The Eclipse Foundation today announced that Sun, the lead for the Java(TM) Persistence API (JPA) 2.0, JSR 317 standard has selected the EclipseLink project as the reference implementation. The Eclipse Persistence Services Project (EclipseLink), led by Oracle, delivers an open source runtime framework supporting key persistence standards. The EclipseLink project provides a rich set of services that address complex mapping, performance and scalability and advanced functionality required for enterprise Java applications.

Eclipse Announces New Runtime Initiative around Equinox

The Eclipse Foundation today announced a new initiative to develop and promote open source runtime technology based on Equinox, a lightweight OSGi compliant runtime. While Eclipse is well known for its widely used development tools, this initiative establishes a community of Eclipse open source projects focused on runtime technology that provides a more flexible approach to building and deploying software on mobile, desktop and server environments.

Eclipse RCP Training Series Announced

Eclipse Riena project enhances building enterprise applications using Eclipse RCP

The Eclipse Foundation and compeople AG today announced that Riena has been successfully established as an open-source project within the Eclipse community. The Riena project will provide a homogeneous platform for business enterprise applications from the user interface to the back-end integration, based entirely on the Eclipse Equinox platform. By doing so, Riena will make it easier and much more comfortable to build multi-tier enterprise client/server applications, using Eclipse RCP (Rich Client Platform).

Eclipse & OMG Symposium - Call for Contributions

Eclipse and OMG are jointly organising two one-day symposia to promote and build on the partnership between Eclipse's open source software and OMG's open standards - one as part of EclipseCon 2008 in Santa Clara, the other during the OMG Technical Meeting in Ottawa. Each symposium will be organised as a series of discussion sessions on corresponding OMG standards and Eclipse projects. In each case the purpose will be to discuss the alignment between current standard and implemented software, and identify areas where the cooperation could be further improved in future.
