The Eclipse Foundation is pleased to announce the keynote speakers for the Eclipse Summit Europe conference, to be held November 19-20 in Ludwigsburg, Germany. The two keynote speakers will be:

• David Wood, Executive VP Research at Symbian. Mr. Wood’s talk ‘Why Should the Mobile World Go Open Source?’ will be his reflections on the possible upsides and downsides when open source software systems are applied in the fast-moving helter-skelter world of mobile phones.

The Eclipse Foundation, in partnership with 14 Eclipse Foundation members, is pleased to announce a new Eclipse Training Series to be held in 31 cities around the world. The instructor-led training courses will be held from November 3 to December 13, 2008 and feature classes on Eclipse RCP (Basic and Advanced), Eclipse Equinox and Eclipse Modeling technologies.

The deadline for the Eclipse Summit Europe Call for Papers is Monday, September 1, 2008. Eclipse Summit Europe is the Eclipse Foundation’s annual community event for the European Eclipse ecosystem and is scheduled for November 19-20 in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

In June and July, Eclipse held a Ganymede Around the World Contest for individuals to submit their reviews of the Ganymede release. Over 600 reviews and messages were received from more than 70 different countries. All submissions can be seen on the Ganymede Around the World map. The reviews have been judged and the results are in.

The Eclipse Foundation and the entire Eclipse community are pleased to announce the availability of the Ganymede Release, the annual release train developed by the Eclipse community. The Ganymede Release is a coordinated release of 23 different Eclipse project teams that represents over 18 million lines of code.

To celebrate the Ganymede release in June, the Eclipse Foundation is inviting individuals to organize and attend Eclipse DemoCamps around the world.

The Eclipse Foundation is hosting a party for the Eclipse community at JavaOne. The Eclipse Foundation today announced new initiatives to develop open source technologies for embedded and mobile developers. The new initiatives, part of the Eclipse Device Software Development Platform (DSDP) Project, make it easier for developers to debug, manage and deploy software on embedded and mobile devices. These new projects build on the continued success the Eclipse community has had in creating open source technology for the embedded and mobile industry.

The Eclipse Foundation today welcomed participants to EclipseCon 2008, the fifth annual Eclipse community conference, being held at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif. EclipseCon 2008 will feature the latest Eclipse developments and will provide a forum for attendees to discuss key business and technical issues facing the community.

The Eclipse Foundation today announced the winners of its annual Eclipse Community Awards, which recognize the top individuals and products in the Eclipse community. Recipients were honored at an awards ceremony yesterday on the opening day of EclipseCon 2008.

The Eclipse Foundation today announced that Sun, the lead for the Java(TM) Persistence API (JPA) 2.0, JSR 317 standard has selected the EclipseLink project as the reference implementation. The Eclipse Persistence Services Project (EclipseLink), led by Oracle, delivers an open source runtime framework supporting key persistence standards. The EclipseLink project provides a rich set of services that address complex mapping, performance and scalability and advanced functionality required for enterprise Java applications.

The Eclipse Foundation today announced a new initiative to develop and promote open source runtime technology based on Equinox, a lightweight OSGi compliant runtime. While Eclipse is well known for its widely used development tools, this initiative establishes a community of Eclipse open source projects focused on runtime technology that provides a more flexible approach to building and deploying software on mobile, desktop and server environments.

The Eclipse Foundation today announced the availability of Eclipse Higgins 1.0, a freely downloadable identity framework designed to integrate identity, profile and social relationship information across multiple sites, applications and devices using an extensible set of components.

The Eclipse Foundation is pleased to announce a new series of RCP training classes, to be held between May 19 and June 13. In partnership with Eclipse member companies, the RCP training series is to provide in-depth education for developers building Eclipse RCP-based applications.

The Eclipse Foundation and compeople AG today announced that Riena has been successfully established as an open-source project within the Eclipse community. The Riena project will provide a homogeneous platform for business enterprise applications from the user interface to the back-end integration, based entirely on the Eclipse Equinox platform. By doing so, Riena will make it easier and much more comfortable to build multi-tier enterprise client/server applications, using Eclipse RCP (Rich Client Platform).
